When is Valentines Day?
That is certainly the most important thing to know, as you better not forget it! Well Valentine's Day is celebrated, every year, and this everywhere in the world, at the same date: February 14th. Now if you open a calendar, you will find that, this year, Valentine's Day will be a Sunday.
So to get yourself ready for this lovely Day , you have:
And the best way to remember the date is to set our Valentines day animated countdown as your start page, or to post it on your facebook timeline.
Who was Saint Valentine?
It's a bit complicated. There are many Valentines fighting to be the one we celebrate. Some says there are two of those, or three. There could even be nine Valentines ...
Many say that Saint Valentine of Terni is the one. But that does not really matter, as the celebration we know as Valentine's Day is not directly related to a Saint. It's more a day chosen because people believed it to be the day when birds are matting. And it appears they were also wrong on this. Go figure.
Wishes for Cards, SMS, etc.
When Happy Birthday eCards are sent on every day of the Year, Valentine's Day Cards, like Christmas Cards, are sent during a very short period of the year.
Those cards that people send to each other to express their love are one of the oldest traditions of this sweet day. If eCards are now more common that old postcards, you still need to choose carefully the way you word your feelings. And, because it's not always easy to find them, here are, selected for you, a collection of romantic messages to whisper in the ear of your loved one:
- Happy valentine's day! Whether valentine day or not, I can't think of anyone I would rather spend a day with.
- To my sweet Valentine I look at you and see the rest of my life in front of my eyes.
- Happy valentine's day! I don't just love you. I love that I get to have you as my valentine.
- Happy valentine's day! In your smile I see something more beautiful than the stars.
- Happy valentine's day! For me you are perfect!
- Happy valentine's day! I love loving you.
- A hundred hearts would be too few To carry all my love for you!
- I’ve fallen in love many times... Always with you.
- If I had a single flower for every time I think of you, I could walk forever in my garden.
- As Nietzsche told us There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.
- As Albert Einstein told us You can't blame gravity for falling in love.
Gift Ideas
The indispensable, the obligatory passage, the imposed figure, her majesty the Rose.
Red or white. This dear, very dear Rose! And expensive. Expect to see its price skyrocket a few days before February 14th. Victim of her success, hunted everywhere on the globe.
But as the Rose is the universal symbol of Love, do not even think about sparing some money by buying cheaper flowers! Offer it in odd number, or per dozen.
Like a box of chocolates...
This is not Christmas, nor Easter, but still it's a really nice day too for Chocolate makers (and lovers).
A heart-shaped box will be perfect, for your sweetheart to melt.
Candies also are nice :)
Don't be unreasonable, be crazy!
Because it's the perfect to loose your mind, consider a little tête-à-tête in a famous restaurant. A trip to Paris, Venice, or Rome. A jewel. Diamonds. A nice little car, red of course.
Best Love Songs Ever
On Valentine's day evening there shall be no candlelight dinner without music. If gypsy violins and smiling mariachis are nowhere to be found, simply invite the king of all crooners, Mister Sinatra himself. Between "Strangers In The Night", "The Girl from Ipanema" and "I've got you under my skin" hearts will be broken.
Strangers In the Night - Frank Sinatra.
For more variety do not hesitate to invite to your table Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Louis Amstrong obviously, preferably in duet with Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone. Do not forget to ask those nice folks to sing "Sweet Lorraine", "Unforgettable", "Let there be Love", "Cheek to Cheek", and, of course, "My Funny Valentine"...
And like if it was not enough already, we have prepared for you a hand-picked selection of the best Love Songs Ever. Feel free to use it at your advantage!

For Opera Lovers
The Opera aficionado here will have the incomparable advantage of being able to add a string to Cupid's bow. For who could resist fifteen minutes of the famous duo closing the first act of Puccini "Madam Butterfly"? Who would not get carried away by a Che gelida manina!, a O soave fanciulla performed by Pavarotti? I tell you again, hearts will be broken, more surely than crystal glasses.

Of course. Preferably aboard a cruise ship, for the little thrill in the back.

The 1946, black and white, movie by Jean Cocteau for true Magic.
Or, for the less adventurous of you, the 1991 Disney version. Be prepared to sing with Gaston!
